As every year, Chinaforum Bayern e.V.'s “Christmas Club” took place in 2025 and impressed with exciting content.
After a welcome address by Stefan Geiger, Managing Director of Chinaforum Bayern e.V., Prof. Dr. Markus Taube* gave an impressive overview of China's economic and geopolitical developments. Particular focus was placed on the massive upheavals in the electric vehicle sector, where around 200 manufacturers are currently competing for market share—a number that, according to Taube, will quickly be reduced to a few globally competitive companies. Although BYD holds around 30% market share, it could come under financial pressure due to new statutory payment terms, while Tesla's market share has fallen to just 3%. With the entry of Huawei, which is redefining mobility primarily as a software and entertainment platform, the industry is shifting once again. Taube also showed how deeply AI tools such as DeepSeek are anchored in the Chinese economy and how China is gaining geopolitical strength – from growing influence in South America and Africa to the strategic use of rare earths and a confidently demonstrated military presence. At the same time, medium-sized companies are facing succession problems, while rural regions are developing new economic dynamics via platforms such as Taobao.
Another highlight of the day was our visit to Memmert GmbH + Co. KG, which impressed us both as our host and as a leader in innovation. The company develops high-precision heating, incubation, and climate chambers as well as water and oil baths for research and industry, and demonstrated how technological excellence and a well-thought-out international strategy can be consistently interlinked. During the tour of the main plant in Büchenbach, we gained detailed insights into the company's modern production processes and global supply chains. Over lunch, we deepened our discussions about Memmert's business in China, which is characterized by long-term partnerships, a clear understanding of the market, and high quality standards. Managing Director Philipp Schwarm also emphasized how strongly the corporate culture is shaped by cooperation, appreciation, and international openness—factors that significantly support the company's innovative strength.
For us at ti communication, this day was the perfect combination of current insights into China and practical insights into an internationally successful company – a combination that is particularly valuable for our work.
