Video conferences are a time and cost efficient way of communicating in a global context. In addition to the technical problems involved in virtual international meetings, there are also a multitude of challenges and hurdles on an intercultural level.
Although the business partners can see and hear each other, in reality they are in their own cultural spheres and usually in a mono-cultural group. The individual cultural behaviour of the participants and all the unspoken expectations, ways and speed of speaking, etc. that this implies are hardly ever reflected upon and hardly ever adapted to the bi-cultural or multicultural environment. This makes virtual meetings especially prone to misunderstandings and frustrated expectations and often leads to participants treading on each other’s toes. Work procedures are delayed, targets cannot be reached. Feelings of insecurity and dissatisfaction hamper further cooperation.
For all these reasons it is evident that video conferences in an intercultural context deserve special attention and so we would be glad to prepare and offer you seminars and training courses for this special challenge.
